So, we had a busy weekend. We went to pick up our two bull calves on Saturday night. We brought them home in crates. It reminded me of Madagascar. LOL Anyway, getting them was easy compared to the work it took to prepare for them. We had to clean the barn, move some hay and put down new straw for them, wash their bottles and their feed bucket. Than we has to get their feed and their milk replacer in rubbermaid containers and fill their feed and water buckets. They were already fed before we got there to pick them up so we had to wait until Sunday morning.
So, Sunday morning was really fun. They are so cute when they butt and kick to get their bottles to work faster. I think we did really well for our first time. It was harder than we thought to get them to take the bottles at first though. Once they got the hang of it they went to town on those bottles though.
The one calf is a few days older and a little bigger. He seems to be more dominate so we named him Sirloin but call him Sir for short. The little one we named T-Bone but call him Little T since he is smaller and more timid. They both have the biggest doe eyes and thick dark lashes.
We love living on our little piece of heaven on earth. God has truly blessed us and we are anticipating His love to pour out on us as we continue to fill our farm with animals. Next are the chickens LOL :) Than we will seriously look for a milking cow. That will be the hardest work so we'll wait until last. LOL

What a weekend!
WOW! I had a fun and interesting weekend. My husband and I were alone for a few days of it so that was extra nice. We went on a few dates, spent some time with some friends, and did some driving around to find a cow.
So, apparently, there is an Amish "Wal-Mart". Yes, our friends took us there on Friday. It is in the middle of no where but it is really fun. We actually found some really cool stuff for very cheap that we needed for our new farm. We found some fence posts, glass blocks, and my favorite, the dinner bell to hang on my front porch.
We drove all over on Saturday and stopped at random houses that looked like they had beef cows to see if they had a calf for sale. Unfortunately, we had no luck but were given some very useful information to help us find a cow. Than we took the girls to the fair on Saturday night and we found a farmer who thinks he can get us a Guernsey milking cow and possibly a beef cow too.
So, we had a good weekend. Now I am waiting for my homemade bread to rise so I can punch it down and let it rise again. I am super excited to see if I can make bread as good as my Amish neighbor brought me the other day. :)

Cleaning Machine
I am not sure why I am so excited to get a new washer and dryer, it inevitably only makes more work for me. However, it will be nice to have a dryer for those days when I am in a hurry and the clothes won't dry on the line fast enough.
So, the guys who brought my washer and dryer were very friendly but not so thorough. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get my washer to start filling up. Well, maybe it would help if they turned the water on. Oh wait! Maybe that wasn't a good idea after all, since they never tightened the hoses so the water is spraying all over behind them. Thankfully my husband was home to fix it and help me clean up the mess.
Other than that, yesterday was fun. Since the two oldest are off at Teen Camp and Nana and Papa took the baby for a couple of nights, I got to go on a date with my wonderful husband. We went out for dinner and came home and watched a movie.
Today, I am up at 6:30 as usual but I let David sleep in. I am doing a little blogging and than I plan on doing dishes and making my hubby breakfast in bed. He deserves some pampering after a long week of overtime at work. Than, once we get moving, we are going to visit some of our Amish neighbors to barter and trade for some cows and chickens. This should be an interesting day. I am excited to meet more of out Amish neighbors and to buy their fresh produce, candy, and butter. The only thing better would be to have a cow to make my own butter but this too shall come.

A little piece of heaven
The sun is shining and the wind is gently swaying every branch. The breeze is enough to cool the entire house despite the 80 degree day. I am glad to have the windows open finally, after several days of unbearable humidity.
We have had three visitors today. The first was our pastors wife and dear friend of mine. She just came for coffee and to see our new home. Peanut was so excited to have her come over. She showed off her bedroom and played quietly while we visited. To finish our visit, Peanut showed her the barn. She climbed up into the hay and played with the kittens and made our visitor laugh as she so lovingly choked and squeezed the kittens (not on purpose of course). It is so sweet to watch her stroke the kittens' heads with her cheek and talk so gently to them. I am so glad they put up with her torture, she just loves them to death.
It's amazing the things that can amuse a toddler. Yesterday she picked our first pepper out of the garden and you would have thought it was a golden nugget she was so happy and waited for Daddy to come home to show him. Today, I let her pick an apple, even though it could have used some more time to ripen. She didn't mind, she ate it, sour or not, she was sure excited.
Our second visitor of the day was Grandma. She just came over to have a cup of coffee and a muffin. Unfortunately, Peanut was sleeping and missed our visit. Grandma even stopped by later with my cousin to let him see the farm. It was great to see them both. I am blessed to have family so close, but yet not too close that they intrude on daily life. It's nice that they are close enough to visit though. Grandma is always a fun visitor. She is so cute and always makes me laugh.
Now, time to get the baby up and interrupt my quiet time so we can start our night of running. Lets see, first is shopping, than a tupperware party, church, and finally home to get everyone in bed. So, it has been a relaxing and fun day but will end hectic.

I love waking up to the sound of the birds outside my window. There is something so peaceful and welcoming here. We have been in our new house for a month already but I am still amazed at how much I love it out here. Far from the sounds of the city, up high on the ridge overlooking the breath taking sight of the hills and trees below. God's awesome power just hits me when I look at the beauty in every new thing I discover up here.
Granted, there is so much more work on a farm but it is so rewarding. I can't wait to fill it up with animals. So far just three bunnies and three kittens in the barn but a chicken coop is in the making and we are bartering with the nearby Amish this weekend to get a milking and a beef cow.
The kids love it out here. They love the space, the animals (and the prospect of getting more animals), and the quietness. We are so blessed and thankful for our new home.
